Petition for New Dog Park in Savannah
A couple weeks ago, one of our volunteers emailed me about someone wanting to start a petition for putting another dog park in Savannah, particularly on the Southside. I emailed the person back some questions (such as location, who was sponsoring the petition, etc.), and suggested they get it going online. I’m happy to announce that they have.
PETITION TO THE CITY OF SAVANNAH MAYOR AND ALDERMEN:
The undersigned citizens of Savannah/Chatham County would like an area allocated in Joseph J.Tribble Park for the establishment of a fenced-in dog park. The Joseph J. Tribble Park entrance is at the base of the water tower on Largo Drive near the intersection of Windsor Road. The park has a paved jogging/walking trail around a small lake and a large open area surrounded by woods. It is a perfect location for a dog park!
We know we need more fenced-in dog parks, so take a moment and sign the petition here.
Success Story: Nessie

This sweet little kitten wandered up to a volunteer’s house. She was hungry and had a jaw that had been broken and healed crooked. She was placed in a foster home, where she grew healthy and began to trust people. Nessie is now living the life of luxury in Charleston, South Carolina. Her new mom says that Nessie suffers from “only child syndrome” — spoiled, spoiled, spoiled.
Georgia Finally Getting Tougher on Dog Fighting
News from the AP reports that Georgia is no longer going to give free passes for those participating in dog fighting.
The House voted 165-6 to allow prosecutors to charge spectators of dog fights with a misdemeanor penalty which carries up to a year in jail and a maximum $5,000 fine.
The bill also allows prosecutors to charge people who host dog fights or train their canines for dogfighting with a felony.
The Senate passed a similar bill last year, but it failed to reach a vote.
Kudos to The House for finally getting on the animal welfare bandwagon. It’s now up for us to put the pressure on law enforcement to make sure reports of these activities are followed through and our judges actually issue the mandatory penalties to send a clear message that these activities will no longer be tolerated.
